- Some comments about the letter. I don't think we should be that worried
- about them having something agains Mood (neither from the legal point
- of view. I don't think they have board game like 'copyrights' on computer
- games like Doom (which isn't that original concept, just well done)).
- IMHO it should be enough just to inform ID of the Mood effort, it's goals,
- current status and ask for their comment. Ie. something like this:
-
-
- -------
- New, free Doom 'clone'

- We are currently working on a 3D engine based on "..."'s (who hasn't yet
- answered to our e-mail enquiries) free non-texture mapped WAD viewer
- sources which will be able to load DOOM I & II format WADs.
-
- Currently our engine doesn't have any monster code. Texture mapping
- with DSP is being developed. The game and it's sources will be free.
- The game will not include any WADs (users are free to use any they
- wish with it) and at this state it's not yet sure how similar Mood
- gameplay will be to Doom. Mood will probably have a mode for multiplayer
- (2-16) game without monsters.
-
- We are willing to include with the game a text of your choice for
- advertising your WAD files along with the information for obtaining
- freeware WAD files from the internet.
-
- Our game licence will most like be based around FSF's GNU public
- License and state that:
-
- > * iD software has nothing to do with us and can't in any way be held
- > responsible for this program or the damages that could result from its use.
- > * The use of this program with iD software's WAD files is prohibited if it
- > comes from an unregistered version of DOOM or DOOM II.
-
- > You can see that our goal is not to, in any way, benefit from your work.
- > What we want to do is to give DOOM to our beloved machine, while preserving
- > your rights intact. We think that you could only benefit from this (even if
- > it would be negligible when compared to your sales on PC).
-
-
- We would be interested in specifications about Doom network protocol
- in case it would be possible to use Mood as Doom deadmatch opponent
- (differencies in moster AI will probably make this impossible though)
- and the specs would be free.
-
- You can follow the Mood progress from the Mood site:
- (supported by Johan Klockars).
-
- Any comments are wellcome.
-
-
- Sincerely yours,
-
- The (Bad) Mood team

- What do you think? It will need some modifications but IMHO the earlier
- effort was a bit too flattering for ID, the Mood programmers should be
- more proud about their effort.
